Kitchen: Counter Tops – Step 2 – Applying the first coat of Bonding Primer

Once things were prepped, we prepared to start the first coat of the Skimstone bonding primer (2 coats, total).
We purchased the bonding primer in gallons – they arrived like paint cans – and just as heavy. Make sure you have a paint stick on hand to mix the bonding primer to prevent the top material from getting too dry in the can as you work.
The consistency of the bonding primer was a thick, sandy mixture. The Skimstone instructions state to use a trowel to apply the bonding primer in a thin layer (1/32 of an inch), applying it at a 45 degree angle. We started using the trowel, but found it very difficult to work with. We ended up using the trowel to hold extra bonding primer as we were applying the bonding primer with a putty knife.
